Pakistan Government Keeps Petrol Price Unchanged
The Pakistan government keeps petrol prices unchanged from March 16, 2025, ensuring stability despite high fuel taxes.

The Government of Pakistan has decided to keep petrol prices the same for the next two weeks, starting March 16, 2025. This decision, announced by the Finance Division, aims to provide relief to people during uncertain economic conditions and fluctuating global oil prices.
Current Fuel Prices
There will be no increase or decrease in these prices, ensuring stability for consumers.
Earlier, reports suggested that petrol prices might drop by Rs. 15 per litre, while HSD and kerosene oil were expected to decrease by Rs. 8 and Rs. 10 per litre, respectively. However, the government decided to maintain the current rates.
Taxes on Fuel
Even though there is no General Sales Tax (GST) on petrol and diesel, the government still applies taxes. Currently, about Rs. 76 per litre is collected in taxes, including:
- Petroleum Development Levy (PDL): Rs. 60 per litre (which can go up to Rs. 70 per litre)
- Customs Duty: Rs. 16 per litre
- Distribution & Dealer Margins: Rs. 17 per litre
Conclusion
By keeping fuel prices unchanged, the government aims to provide stability for consumers. However, the high tax rates on petrol and diesel continue to affect fuel costs. While many expected a price reduction, the government's taxation policy will ultimately decide whether fuel prices decrease in the future.
