Petrol Price Likely to Drop by Rs. 9 Per Litre in Pakistan
Petrol prices in Pakistan may drop by Rs. 9/litre in August 2025. Learn why prices are falling and what it means for your budget.
Good news for everyone driving a car or bike! Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to go down by Rs. 9 per litre in the first half of August. Diesel prices might also decrease by around Rs. 3.50 per litre.
This is a big relief, especially after prices kept rising over the past few months.
Why Are Fuel Prices Coming Down?
Two main reasons:
- International oil prices have gone down. Crude oil is now cheaper than it was two weeks ago.
- Lower import costs – The fee we pay to import petrol has dropped from $9.70 to $6.75 per barrel, thanks to easing tensions in the region.
Recent Price Hikes
- Since mid-May, petrol became Rs. 20 more expensive.
- Diesel went up by Rs. 28 per litre during the same time.
But Not All Fuels Are Getting Cheaper.
While petrol and diesel prices are falling, kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) might go up:
- Kerosene: +Rs. 3.50 per litre
- LDO: +Rs. 2.25 per litre
What’s the Government’s Role?
Even with falling prices, the government still collects a big chunk of money from fuel. Here's how the fuel price is built.
- Petroleum & Climate Support Levy (CSL): Around Rs. 77–78 per litre
- Customs Duty: Rs. 20–21 per litre
- Dealer and Distribution Margins: Rs. 17 per litre
That means, for every litre of petrol or diesel, almost Rs. 98 goes to the government.
Some Quick Facts
- Monthly petrol + diesel sales = 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes
- Last year (2024-25), the government earned Rs. 1.16 trillion from the fuel levy
- This year, it's aiming for Rs. 1.47 trillion – that's a 27% jump!
Final Thoughts
Cheaper fuel prices will bring some relief to your monthly budget. But with government taxes still high, don’t expect miracles at the pump. Let’s hope the trend of lower prices continues.
